December 13, 2007 Stevens was created by Zap

The day started a bit discouraging when the precipitation from the hairpin turn did not change from rain to snow at the Stevens parking lot. Although the telemetry is deceiving because for the first half hour there was freezing rain on my goggles. I almost got back into the van but I have a midweek pass and they were having demo days. After my first run it began snowing lightly and continued until I left at 2:15pm. No lift lines. I had a blast demoing 10 different skis. I have a new wish list. Stevens has good coverage on the front side trails but you don't want to ski off piste. Around 1pm I noticed a few rocks protruding but nothing signficant. You definitely do NOT want to ski off piste.

After Stevens, I drove to Baker and it started snowing at 1000'. Decided to put the chains on at 1500' and it was one of the smarter things I've done lately. Chains were required except awd a couple miles after I put them on. There was a state trooper near the DOT shed observing. It was snowing hard and dark and the road was not plowed recently. The van was a tank with chains. Planned to spend the night at the lower lodge but it was gated. Drove another 3 miles to the upper lot . I have Verizon cell coverage and T-Mobile for the wireless internet. The generator is purring the furnace is pumping out warm air I'm sipping a Full Sail Amber and it's snowing quite hard outside. I thnk it may be a powder day at Baker on Friday and Saturday. Taking one for the team.
