mission ridge...the only lifts running? was created by dporter177
well, it appears as if the lifts are going to be lonely this upcoming thanksgiving week. My sister is coming to visit and I really wanted to take her skiing. I just moved to seattle in september. right now it looks as if mission ridge may have the only lift served in washington. baker appears to have a small chance at some beginner terrain. is there anything im missing? I really want to go somewhere on thursday or friday as just a day trip.

my sister doesnt hike...

but anyways, we went to mission ridge on friday. the clouds were just below the base. only one trail open. i can't say they made the best snow (being from the east coast i am used to pristine snow from the guns), but it was an ok day for the first day of lift served in washington. it's a descent sized mountain, but the base area is way smaller than i expected. the ski shop and lodge is no bigger than a large house. oh, and the mountain faces north. with the low washington sun angle in november it was tough for the rays to even get over the ridge and onto the slopes...

If you want expansive base area and lodges, not to mention better skiing, you might look somewhere else. Really, you'd be better off not coming past the crest, the passes and westside locations are better options for you.

Indeed. terrible place. Skiing there no good. Head for Summit West where the base area is expansive and much bigger than a house.

Gets way more sun too.

Awww, c'mon you guys... give a rusty Westsider a break! You don't have to worry. It's too hard for most of us to make it ALL the way over to the sunny side of the hill, anyway. Besides, we're all too busy stopping at Starbucks and shopping for shiny things at Marmot to go skiing. I think that Mission has really blown it, though. They actually post the snow conditions and have their web cam up. Where's the mystery???

I'll always tell my friends that it's too far and too cold over in Weenie-atchie. And I'm not at all sure of the quality of the half-caf-double caramel macchiato with white chocolate sprinkles at the MR base facilities. (Now removing tongue from cheek).

Cheers and have an excellent season! Tomorrow could be sweet...
