Kicking Horse ski area BC was created by skierguitarist
Since BC has been getting most of the snow as of late--was curious if anybody has skied Kicking Horse or nearby areas.   Thinking if things don't get going around here fairly soon a trip to BC might be in order..........

Kicking Horse is the best resort Ive ever been to the lines are extreme and the backcountry is unbelivable just dont be caught in the BC without a beacon probe and shovel.

PS early season is dangerous out there their is a reason they call it the Canadian Rockies

Thanks for the Kicking Horse info...and also the avy equipment reminder. Must get those probes.

Supposed to have 10 to 18'' this weekend at Bachelor but a trip to BC mid-winter/early spring sounds like the ticket anyway. Over 4000' vert. so says Kicking Horse web site!!!!

Kicking Horse is great. I was there in December a couple of years ago and we had the place to ourselves, along with several cm of new every night. The snowpack was a little bony at the bottom for the first couple of days, but the new snow fixed that pretty fast. Kicking Horse is probably as good a choice as anywhere for early season skiing.

The terrain was fantastic, especially up top. The gondola ran up a ridge that had steep glades off one side and chutes off the other. They had not built the quad at the top yet, but that would only have made it better. The basin they put it in looked amazing. There is clearly some good BC access and lots of good lines to choose from in and out of bounds.

We also took a day to do some touring at Rogers Pass, about an hour away and a destination in its own right. The visitors center at the top of the pass is a great place to stop and get route info and a snow/avy report. The motel at the top of the pass has touring right out the back door and pitchers of beer at the bar.

We also did a day of cat skiing in Revelstoke, on the other side of Rogers Pass. Early season rates were in effect so we gave it a shot and it was worth the price. It didn't feel like early season.

Hey, that was a pretty great trip. Maybe I should go back to Kicking Horse too...

Technically, it's not in the Rockies, since it's on the west side of the valley... 8)
Your point stands though...
