march 25 - Alpental was created by TomK
3/25/07 - Sunday AM at Alpental. Watched the radar closely and skipped the first 1/2 hour of operations due to a rain show. Got up there at 0930 and only had to deal with few snow showers on and off thru the morning. Snow was 4-6 inches of heavy NW flan over well set (but not icy) rained-on base. Pole-drag pull test showed the new wasn't very well bonded to the base, so wet slab alert. Cat track was roped off at first - I assume ski cutting/avy control in shot 6/5. Up on chair 2, the International side was restricted to the one lower entrance, great coverage and edgability would have been great if not for the mediocre vis and flat light. We headed down the Snake Dance a couple of times as well as the Edelweiss bowl once and that was enough work for us by noon. Sessel chair wasn't running. TomK, Kerry, and Chad.

High traverse opened shortly after the low yesterday and we got several good runs out in that direction, including a fantastic ski after booting up above Piss Pass and skiing down the back and around to Pineapple. Untracked and light/fluffy. Saw a couple of folks skinning up right near the top, so we farmed as best we could to save the goods for the ones who'd worked harder for it -- hope you guys had a great time!
Everything was turning into refrozen crud by the end of the day, but it was good while it lasted.

Nice job of farming. Much appreciated. Sure was fun to watch that teleskier rippin it up. If that was you, rock on dude.
We had a nice short tour up great scott bowl. What a nice day (well half-day), especially when the sun came out...which it did right before each ski down.
