March 14, 2006 eve, Alpental was created by TomK
3/14/07 - Wednesday Eve at Alpental. A few clouds and lots of stars. Snowline was down at milepost 50. Temp was 28 degrees, basicly no wind. 2" of new over the pretty hard base had been well used by the daytimers, but we each were able to find patches of 1-3 turns in freshies still. Fast sliding I'm sure made the city league racers who had their usual course set up on Sessel happy. Some folks were hitting race speeds out on the slope, but everyone was being smart about it since the hill was uncrowded. There''s a pretty gnarly avy debris field in Eisfallen from an avy control blast, but the cat track was in great shape and not bumped out. Snow cover has melted down to the point where a couple of brush sticks are starting to show at the top of Armstrong chair universal pause point, and down below the gun platform rollover on skiers left. Never had to wait for a chair. TomK, Kerry, & Chad.

Ya Alp was pretty enjoyable last night -- the few inches of new snow made things much better than they could have been.

Looking at avi debris was a good reminder that a good percentage of the time a beacon is mearly a "body location device" -- does anyone know when that stuff came down? I assume the Alp patrol brought it down Sunday morning before opening.

Hmmm... I was also there but I had to leave by four thirty...I found that everything was bulletproof with 2-6'' on top. Lower international was muy bueno especially because there were fresh lines just everywhere. Snake Dance delivered well. All in all it was a good day while I was there

I heard it was a 150 pounder extra-large charge in shot 5 that was set off in the wee hours of Sunday the 11th.
