3/9/07 Alpental

Drop the kid off at school, on the hill for fresh tracks and sunshine all morning, in the office by 1ish, pick up kid, home for dinner. Only at Alpental.

How much fresh was there? I heard a report of one and a half to two feet (!) on Thursday, which was then dismissed by someone else...

It was one of those "you don't know if you don't go" days at Alpental Friday, and no one went--it was empty. 0 new reported, but up top sunny and 5-7 inches new--fog and glop down low. In bounds up-top and Nash was great, but the BC off Piss Pass was unreal at least 12 inches deep (maybe BC was closed Thursday?) I'm not kidding, only 4 or 5 skiers lapping the BC. Dave had to leave at 11:30, actually I did too, but it was so good I just kept going and going.

No, it was actually open Thursday, but there were even fewer skiers hitting it.  Thursday was one of those hidden gems in the season with nice turns and noone there. 1-2 feet sounds a bit optimistic to me, but I'm back at work making it hard to ski mornings, everyone said it was really nice in the AM. It was still good when I got out on Friday but had gotten pretty heavy & wet. Still pretty fun though, although I'm pretty spoiled from being on vacation the 2 weeks previous. Really a great season at the Alp!
