My son and I skied Silver Mountain yesterday. Three or so inches of powder over ice and crud. The tree and glade skiing was outstanding.

North Face Glades at Silver
Snowed about 5 inches last night. We went to Lookout Pass which is closed on Wednesday so there was maxi powder on Thursday. Again the tree and glades were great. It snowed hard all day and the temperature was high and the snow was wet. However the skiing was still very good and made up for the slow chairs.

Tight trees at Lookout
We're holed up in Kalispell and heading to Big Mountain tomorrow.

We'll arrive in Big Mt. Monday morning. Post a report on how things are looking there?
Thanks!

Wilco. We plan to ski Blacktail on Monday and visit the old Crystal chair lift that is still going strong there. Off to Big Mt in a couple of hours...

On Thursday, Feb 16 at Big Mountain we were greeted with 4+ inches of powder and can it get any bluer skies.

It was crowded and there was even a 20 minute line for the Glacier Chaser chair to get to the top. Our first run was down into the Hellroaring Basin down powder slopes made somewhat difficult to ski because of breakable crust. However, the powder in the trees and lower on the mountain was much easier to negotiate. As it warmed up in the afternoon the snow got creamier and the crud in the becoming packed was easy to push around. And the moguls were snow covered. Except on the race course, no ice was encountered.
As the pictures show, there is lots of snow here and adequate coverage on all the runs.

Yesterday, Saturday, it started to snow and the skiing just got better all day long. At times there were some long lines but no where near what we experienced Friday. (Friday there were make up races going on which contributed to crowding). Unfortunately, the famous fog began at the top and gradually settled in by 3:00 as a complete whiteout on the lower third of the mountain.
Hopefully today will be as much fun as the past two days...

looks like the forecast is calling for similar, warmish (for Whitefish) conditions through the week. We'll be on the hill there on monday!

We decided not to go today because the upper 2/3 of the mt was covered in dense fog. It just lifted a few minutes ago (11:45). Oh well, I guess I should have gone...it looks great up there and it is sufficiently cold on top (23 degrees). I predict it will be good for you tomorrow. We're heading to Blacktail in the morning where it is currently 28 degrees and snowing with great vis but all the chairs are on wind hold as I write this...
