Jan 13-15 Big White BC. was created by Randito
Took my son to Big White for MLK weekend.  Decent coverage on most of the mountain -- except on some of the steeper runs which still have rocks and trees poking out here and there.  No fresh snow to speak of -- but the groomed runs were smooth enough to inviste straightlining and the bump runs had soft bumps --  no icy conditions.

Sat was quite cold with 15F temps and 30+mph winds on top.    Sunday was even colder with 8F temps, but the winds were much less.   Monday had the best weather I've ever seen @ Big White with air temps around 20, virtually no wind and blue bird skies.

In all of the years we've skied at Big White, we also only experienced one day of sun, no wind and clear visibility.  It is memorable when it happens.

Guys - any idea where the closest backcountry to Big White might be? I may take a late season vacation up there and it would be great to get out a couple times for a quick tour if that's feasible.

Thanks for any advice you have.

I've peeked over the summit to look at the north facing slopes and wanted to make runs -- but since my trips to Big White have always been "family vacations" I've never had a suitable partner for such exploring.

Other than Big White Mountain, which is somewhat a stand alone peak, most of the other summits in the area are well forested. There are a few good looking peaks visible from Big White -- but I think you'd need a snow machine to make the approach non-epic.
