After braving the ice field they call Fife, we(Robyn) made it up a more de-iced SR410. 10* temps, sunny skies and cold white smoke snow awaited our arrival.

After doing a few "warmups" on GV Chair, I headed for the new lodge to warm the toes. After putting blood back into the dogs I headed for Willie's Run. A must do run in any conditions to pay tribute to all the old timers. Saw old Dr. Gertsmann putting around on his short skis. That guy has to be about 90. Soft , pillowy snow in the trees made for huge grins and whoops. Next over to Right Angle, to the left through the last NB gate. More soft pillows.

Over to Ch 6 for more of the white goodness. Powder Bowl, Bear Pit, K-2 Face, you name it, it was all good.

Saw a pair of super fat skis on Ch 6. Caught up to the guy to find out they are a pair of "prototype" Line Ski. 150-150-150 @ 182cm. Strickly for pow and heli skiing. Sweet!!

Well Dr. Gerstmann isn't 90-yet. (His mother lived to be 100+.) He's 82. Maybe the beard makes him look older.
Dr. Paul is a remarkable man: mountaineer, pediatrician, yodeller, skier, speaks fluent german. He has one of the cabins at the top of the gold hills chair. Artifical hips and a fall off a ladder last year have slowed him down somewhat.
The picture below is of Lester Gerstmann, (Paul's son), Dr. Paul Gerstmann, my wife, and my son (who is Dr. Paul's godson) taken at Crystal in December. Lester at one time was the youngest person to have summited Denali (16 y/o) when he climbed it with his father.

I hope you dind't think I was disrespecting the good doctor. He was my pediatrician long ago. I was giving props to all the older skiiers still cruisiing the slopes @ Crystal. He is no doubt an icon. I wish him many more cruising runs with all his family. Regards.

Not taken disrespectfully at all and I apologize if my post came off that way. I was happy to see him mentioned. He is such a character and I've had many good adventures with him in the moutnains.
