January 4th || Stevens Pass

Went to Stevens Pass with my wife to celebrate our Birthdays (same day?, I know, how odd) and left the kids in daycare.
Got a speeding ticket just outside of Index @ mile 37 where the road construction is going on, but there was none. 2 Highway Patrol cops beckoned us from a turnout, although we thought they were going to tell us information.
Contstruction Zone is 35, and I was doing 51 (where it usually 60 and I was being reserved since there was snow on the ground).

After we left that, it was slow going but got on the lifts around 1130am until 3pm (wifes 1st time out in 2 years).
Got in 16000 vert in 15 runs. 10 inches fresh, backside was awesome. Aquarius face was fresh each time. Winds started to howl and ice pellets around 230 so we bailed. Great day, about time I get some freshiez.

Is your 3yo on skis yet? Possibly a boy named Shane? I'll be at Alpental tomorrow with my 14 mo old daughter, trading turns with my wife. Maybe we'll run into you.

We went to Alpy about 1 month ago and I skied down with her a few times, but that's about it thus far.
Her name is Aspen, and she will shread the gnar in a few years.

Was hoping on going tomorrow, but the wife got the stomach flu last night so looks like a no-go.....

Maybe it was a longshot. I met a 3yo boy named Shane in the Alpy lodge 10 days ago. He was hanging out with his grandma and had earlier skied his first run down Sessel - doin' the "pizza" with a little bit of "french fries" for speed. After reading your earlier post, I thought I might have met your son and your mother!

We turned around at North Bend yesterday due to the closure. Were going to go today but the wet weather, high snow level and a little too much wine at dinner last night have changed that plan. Funny that our daughter chose today to be up bright and cheery at 7AM, usually we have to roust her out of bed to head up to the pass.

Maybe we'll see you up at Alpental sometime this season. We went ahead an bought passes so we could both ski and our daughter Rowan could get to know the Alpental lodge. She gets a little sled time too. I haven't skiied lifts much in the ten years since I moved to WA. More lift-served days so far this year than in those ten years combined. Alpental is a nice little spot. Still exploring all the nooks.
