It was good. Definitely hard crust 7-8 inches down. In the backcountry the crust was not hard, in the ski area it was...

They opened the gate at 2 pm! ::)

You might want to edit your post to put 12/21 in the title for the benefit of others...

Jill and I spent a couple of hours at Alpental this morning.  Chains were required which slowed some of the crowds.  The snow was heavy powder but it did not turn to rain during our time on the mountain.  In bounds and on steep slopes, you would feel the crust layer but on intermediate angle terrain it was packed powder.  It snowed for about an hour then blue sky patches appeared for awhile. After a couple hours we stopped at Central and the high speed quad was not running and lift lines seemed to be building on the other lifts.  No face shots, just 5-7" of PNW powder.

Most excellent. 30k vert total, half of that on bc laps. Like I said in another post, lots of sloughing but no slides but we'll see what the next 12" does ;-) Hoping to find out tomorrow.

Yes, pretty great skiing today. You had to dance a little to get into Nash by the end of the day, since things were getting scraped off. Or you could just drop straight in ;D. Definitely worth the effort.

I talked to a patroller who said that the control work done this morning yielded very few results. We'll see what the next storm does but appearently not much was releasing and nothing was stepping down. The few things that did slide were very small 'pocket slabs' very high on the steeper ridges.
