12/18/06 - Monday - White Pass. Took Monday off and treated my 9 year old niece and 12 year old Nephew to thier first ski day at White Pass. Signed them up for a never ever package deal and by the end of thier 1.5 hour class, Eric the teacher had taught them basic snowplow technique and Jackie was straightlining the 10-15 yard magic carpet slope, and Nick was pulling linked turns down the 30-40 yard Platter lift. At the end of the day, I took him up the Near Side chairlift and that was too much as his bindings kept popping off when he hit the brakes hard on the steeper pitch. Half way down, the ski patrol came by on thier end of day sweep and called up a snowmobile for a ride down to the lodge so he didn't have to downwalk while I carried his skis down to the rental shop at 4:32. These 4th generation snowsliders both had a great time and can't wait to go again.
Wx: Overcast with a few holes. High 20's for temp, but no wind made it feel warmer than that. Snow cover at 100%, packed and groomed powder with no ice. An inch or two of leftover new in the trees. Pretty low skier count, longest chair wait was for 3 chairs. While the youngun's were in lesson, we ran Holiday, Quail, Paradise, Grouse, Main Street, Cascade, and Holicade runs. TomK, Kerry, Jackie, & Nick.
