We had spent the evening at Carson Pass with the goal of skiing the Red Lake Chutes that descend to hwy. 88. Unfortunately the overnight temperatures were in the mid 50's at 8000 feet and the chutes were soft and sloppy. So plan "B", drive back to South Lake Tahoe and circle on the west side of the lake to Alpine Meadows. We have spring passes at Alpine. The lifts open from 8am to 1pm and we finally arrived at 10am. We were way too late. The slopes were soft and mushy and we skied a bit and decided to leave and head for Lassen. Alpine is only running the 6 pack lift which services the front side and they plan to close on Sunday, May 21.
