May 13, 2006 Timberline

The sun was shining and it was a great day of riding at Timberline. The snow started off rock hard but corned up nicely by about 11:00. We spent most of the day riding in and out of bounds off the Palmer lift. There is still plenty of snow coverage and the Zig Zag canyon looked real tempting, but we didn't venture down into it because we weren't fully prepared for avy conditions (no beacons or probes). The canyon will be in good shape for the next several weeks to ski, so it may be worth heading back out there on foot. On a separate note, I've never seen so many people attempting the summit on Hood as on Saturday. The line of people on the Hogsback and above the Bergschrund was constant from when I got there at 8:00 AM to about 2:00 PM.
