A glorious day at Mt Baker. I took my 9-year-old son up for perhaps our last day of lift skiing this year. Most of the lift-served backcountry seemed to be closed (not that it mattered to us) because of high avalanche danger. There were some impressive slides on Shuksan Arm (see photo below) which fell during the past week. A few big slides came down after the freezing levels started to rise Saturday. It looked like a poor day to be in the backcountry on anything but true-north slopes of moderate angle.
Greetings to Dean C., Rene and Jean C., Grant G., James R. and the rest of the Baker gang. It was great to share the mountain with you for a day. I should come up more often! My son Tom (above) had a great day his first time skiing at Mt Baker.
