“2-3 FEET IN THE PAST 24 HRS; ALMOST 70 FEET FOR THE SEASON! “
“8:00 Monday morning… Two to three feet of snow in the past 24 hours; somewhere around five to seven plus feet since the snow started last week… hard to believe it’s the 17th of April.

Today is a powder day… a big one. The snow is cold, light, quite uncommon for this time of year; quite the gift from the Snow Gods.

The Backside won't open today; we'll be digging those lifts out all day in hopes for tomorrow. But worry not; there will be enough snow and terrain variety on the Frontside to keep you in hog heaven, nirvana for all the powder pigs out there.

Yes, we love spring skiing and we do love sunshine, but we’ll take a powder day first every time. It’s going to warm up this week and the snow will settle down... but thankfully not today. Today it is beautiful powder, and we highly recommend you come and dive in it as if it were the last powder day of the season. You never know; it just might be.”

The above snow report from Kirkwood provides an accurate description of what it was like skiing in the Lake Tahoe area on Sunday and Monday.  Jill and I spent time at Heavenly and at Kirkwood and all we can do is smile.  It is Tuesday and it feels like spring and the next few days are forecasted to be warm and sunny before the next event.  Most of the ski resorts close April 23 but we plan to ride the lifts and tour at Kirkwood until April 30, then Alpine Meadows until Sierra corn arrives. Then we’ll start our next phase of touring further south in the Sierra between Bridgeport and Whitney Portal.   WOW, no one ever imagined that April would be like March.

Jill is back on skis. It is amazing what a powder dump and a few days of Celebrex (plus heat & cold packs) can do for an aching hip and knee!  But she (we) are taking it easy in hopes of being able to do some climbing in the backcountry after the snow consolidates.
