You realize that the Phantom slide path was created after a huge snow storm followed by copious rain and warming. It was a major event. Not likely to happen again easily.
Personally, as a dumb American, prefer Fahrenheit . I don't really like military time, but if you are going to use it, would be better written with 4 digits, ie. 1430 or 1200.
good call on Stevens. Hyak has snow, but due to the rain is not very good. Not really skiable, even on skis 110 underfoot. Did not even try to ski the face, descended access road.
12/28 Pretty scratchy everywhere. Bad skiing for sure, on armstrong express slopes. Slightly better top half of chair 2, if you could find smooth untracked snow.
That was my group of three. Glad someone else could make use of our skin track. The middlefork descent is pretty awesome, but that climb out seems like it never ends. Kevin
If you get the maps is there any reason to get the guide book, West Kootenay touring guide?
spotted silas with his "wild" skis sporting new tail rocker.
Thanks for the update. Hopefully we will see some new snow soon.
Hmmm, read the whole thread, but still need more info. WHERE does the skiable snow end. Can you ski to pebble creek? Thanks. Looking forward to the annual fall trip to Paradise...
It's getting crowded in the great outdoors. Be very aware of the possibility of other parties when ski cutting. It is amazing how far spring avalanche debris can travel. It woul...

Smooth apron had some lurking granite.
Here's my thinking. It rained a lot!
Ummmm, is this a trip report??? I am getting tired of clicking on trip reports and seeing this rant about Crystal! I believe this site is primarily for BC skiers. Is there some reas...
Sweet video, thanks. For the column test, you cut the backside of the column, right? Just asking, as I was surprised you didn't get more of a failure. This is totally picky, and its been a whi...
Anyone that has seen the debri pile from chair peak unloading down to source lake would not venture that way in high avalanche danger. I really don't think there is a safe route to snow lak...
Speaking of Nordic pass. What's the best way back to HYak or grand junction from Nordic pass. The last two times I have traversed out in either direction. If you go straight dow...
Thanks John for all the good writing. I live up at Hyak and enjoy ski touring Silver. Unfortunately, at this time of year, some of my neigbors seem to think it is okay to destroy the cross...
Wow, that sounds just like my trip on Monday. Nice job on the skin track. Have to admit we followed the mutineers lead and hiked the snow lake trail out. Seemed easier then the crust...
Wow those shots make it look like a great day. I went out that afternoon and skinned up to the top of international. Unfortunately the crust action made the international turns pretty crus...
Hey, how much was the guide and where did you find him? Thanks
Hey, Coleman/Deming was a great trip that I would highly recommend. We hit snow at 6,000 feet and I would imagine that since it seemed fairly glacial that it has not receded much higher. T...
We too, went over Copper Pass, and then hung a left to get in the appropriate drainage down to the hairpin. I think another nice option would be to start at the hairpin, and to do the tour in re...
Sounds great, how long did this tour take?
