Thumbtack Basin
Enjoyed a pleasant evening of snowpatch skiing yesterday after work. I'm convinced that the Thumbtack Basin is the most easily accessible snowpatch from central Seattle...only an hour drive and about an hour of hiking.
Snowlake TH was about 2/3 full and lots of folks on the trail. After I hit the Source Lake cutoff I only saw 1 pair of hikers and later a party coming down the SE gullies on Chair after climbing the NE Butt. Snowpatch is much bigger than it was this time last year! The suncups weren't too bad and there was a little bit of rock and avy debris. Enjoyed a few laps, drank a beer/ate some snacks on the top of the Thumbtack, then hiked out. My 4th ski trip for July this year!
