Snowdawg, Snowdawg Jr, and myself all headed for the snowfield on Saturday. The drive up gave us a false hope of bluebird skies, it seemed the closer we got to Paradise the more the clouds swirled overhead. But not getting deterred, up we went. After getting reports of sunshine above 8000', we kept going up... the next report was sunshine somewhere between 8 and 9k... we reached 8700 and heard the sun was about 500 feet up the hill... Ended up at Moon Rocks 9200 and still in a dense fog, so we called it good there. We concluded that the cloud layer must be climbing at about the same rate we were.
Hell, who needs vision anyway? The snow was excellent! We made turns on the 6 - 10 inches of recent snow on top of the old stuff. Suprisingly, the skis stayed on top, making for some fast and smooth turning pleasure. The skis and splitboards stayed on all the way down to nearly Pebble Creek. Eventhough we couldn't see anything, all of us agreed this was our best September turns yet.
Snowdawg and me: month 59
Dawg Jr: month 58

Good to chat with you guys on the way up - funny we are on the same month! We bailed at 8700 as we realized the clouds were marching upwards at our pace...the snow was better than expected and the winds were light (which was sad for Steve's kite...pretty sad sight seeing a kite plopping to the ground) - who needs sunshine!! Would take those conditions over board swallowing suncups and bare ice any day....
Nice meeting you guys as well! That's a bummer about the kite though, better luck next month!
