I didn't end up leaving until morning (3/20) - a day trip, a scouting trip. Went to go look at the Overcoat route. The bike up was longer than expected. 10 miles, 2000 gain, with the occasional obstruction slowing things down -
Patchy snow starting at the Dutch Miller trailhead, but not enough to skin. Not for another 3 miles or so where I headed up a bit beneath Iron Cap Mountain with nice views across to Overcoat and Chimney.
Looks nice! But a long approach. Made me think about Hwy 20 opening soon... If your headed up (or into brutally long approaches... ;) PM me, I'm always looking for more people to ski with.
Got some turns in on well warmed mush, then headed back.
Didn't see anyone all day but had a big cat breaking trail for me for a while...
Rode back out mostly in the dark even though I told myself I wouldn't be doing that... had some trouble with the front tire but got that rolling to a sound track of owls hooting and glowing eyes flashing by in the forest. I got a real charge out of that the first time until I turned my head(lamp) long enough to connect the eyes to the silhouettes of deer.
Oh good, plenty to eat for big cats...

let's just say we didn't make it. Trial 2 the next year: late start/flat tire.

Sorry I missed your call..I was up in the great white north. Looks like a good effort. Maybe the secret is a better lower elevation snowpack? Then maybe you could just drop down to Gold Meyer and the Middle Fork from Snow Lake?
