10/26/2008 Paradise to Anvil Rock - Schwerkraft and Korup
We left Paradise parking lot at 10:40AM. Sunny, barely any clouds and 30mph wind gusts from south/south-west. The wind had us worried and we expected a wind scoured snow field that would be icy and miserable for skiing. We were very pleasantly surprised when we got up to Panorama point and it turned out that it was pretty much wind still up there ;D. Funniest weather ever, but who would complain about a sunny day in October on Rainier??? We skinned up to Anvil Rock where we enjoyed the view onto the Paradise glacier, covered in late season crevasses and seracs.
Our descent route went past Moon Rock across the Muir snow field back and down to Pebble Creek. The surface was composed of a few inches of soft frozen corn snow on top of a solid glacial ice base. Perfect for skiing. Overall a fun ski trip with nothing left to desire.
