Got in October turns yesterday.
Left Paradise at 10.00 am with MikeC.
Nasty weather up to about 8300 then you entered the giant sucker hole that had formed over Muir. Wind was gusting so hard that at times you where nearly blow off your feet. Continued up to Muir. No sign of crevasses and Muir hut was a surprise. New bunks, skylights and the walls painted white. To anybody that knows how gloomy the old hut was, the new refurbished interior is much brighter and cleaner.
Snow was sticky and it was diificult to get a flow going. From Pebble Creek back down to Paradise was really nasty stinging rain and we where like two drowned rats by the time we got to the car.
A nasty weather day but at least October turns are in.
The Muir hut is looking nice, but the white painted walls have not dried - a couple of jackets received their own white spots from rubbing against them.

Way to go Chris.  Sounds like you guys were really moving fast too, at 3 hours 20 mins.

Good to hear that Camp Muir is being cleaned up.  When we were there in July, you and I discussed how filthy and decrepit the place had become.  Then in August we saw that the crumbling stone building that was being held together by strapping was being completely rebuilt, recylcling the original stone.  Now a Muir hut make-over?  Great news!

Yesterday we hiked to and skied a spot on Rainier that I'd like to call "Camp Harlot" because it had several remains of small structures and was covered with artifacts like old beer cans, clothing, lipstick, a pink comb, etc.  So the place was definitely a house of prostitution which serviced people passing through...or perhaps it serviced the Chinese cosmonauts who were secretly training for a lunar mission on the moonscape of Rainier back in the late 50's??  A seeded urban myth here that should be propagated with great care.

Lowell, please forgive me my historical transgressions.

Nice effort, Chris.
Good to hear they have the Muir hut finished.  Sounds a lot nicer now.  We saw your truck waiting patiently in the soup when we got back to the parking lot.  It looked none the worse for wear from the recent encounter with the brush.
