I took a quick lap up and over the Summit Central area. The coverage was decent. Beyond that, the rain crust made things somewhat marginal. There was a tiny bit of soft graupel on top of the supportive, icy crust, so in places the turns on my metal edge fishscales were slightly enjoyable. Otherwise, strictly survival. The peaks were out in nice sun, overriding fog at the pass and down around the Grand Junction plateau area on the back. Really amazing coverage and a good base, but so hard that my skis barely left an impression on the snow most places.
Well that’s not the best news :(, I was hoping to head up tomorrow morning. What time where you on the snow, woops I mean ice? Thanks for the info
I was out about 8:30 to 10:00 AM, 3,000 to 4,000 feet, temps at car 28-31 F. Maybe higher would be a little better, or perhaps heavier equipment. On the whole I prefer ice to breakable crust. Good luck.
