My first ski camping trip of the season, and already more snow than at any time last year. There was enough snow to start skinning at around 2500 feet, but the road was still open so you have to expect the deep wheel ruts for a while. Sad. ("Hey, what's them machomobiles good for if you can't grab a 6-pack of Bud and see how far you can get up the hill? Make's ya feel like a real man.")
There was a significant rain crust Thurs skiing in which made for slow going. As soon as I got in the tent it started to rain. Rained all afternoon with temps around 40 degrees, but it had turned to light snow by 6 pm. Partial clearing by morning, and above 4300 feet the rain crust had frozen enough to support skis.
Skinned up the frontside to the ridge top, and then up to ~5500'. The upper bowl had enough coverage for a few turns. Shaky turns they were however. (It's the skis of course. - - not me.) :)
Started to snow heavily on the way out, with snow level at 3300'.
