Wow,
Boot deep splendor in stable cold snow away from the hordes at Crystal. Lightweight Dave and I got the nonalpine start (about 9:30), skinning up towards Bullion Basin in the morning sun. Beautiful surface hoar and snowy trees seemed a good omen for the day to come. We decided to explore a bit instead of the standard yo-yos off the back side into Cement Basin. We headed north to the summit of Norse Peak and skied south into Lake Basin. A couple of pics below (Looking north to the Norse Peak untouched face and one of lightweight Dave heading down on lap one). Saw only one other person in this big cirque, also skiing the lovely snow in stable conditions. The ride down East Peak back to Crystal found even better conditions, with soft snow, just beginning to show the effects of the bluebird day. Minor sloughing at the bottom chutes. Met some bretheren on the way down, perma-smiles on all faces. Another good day in an epic year!
