Was able to get a great hike and quick ski in at the Paradise/Muir area of Mt. Rainier.  Hike and weather was great, but the ski was quite short as my run was cut short by a mountain goat that decided to catch some rays or chill out on the snow field I was about to ski down, so I kept it short.  Oh well, still September turns and a great day over all!  This snow field was at about 7600' and maybe 1/2 mile past the Pebble Creek/Camp Muir spur from the top of the Skyline trail.  This field required a bit of a scree walk that ended up not being too much fun (the 'trail' became a goat path and there were lots of loose rocks and scree, but not to steep at least!)  I think there were better areas up just a bit higher and more along the established trails of the Pebble Creek area.  Apparently the final snow field just below Camp Muir is blue ice so was told not to go that high if skiing was the goal.  The snow fields were pretty few, small and far between so not sure how this will look for October turns.  This is my first year attempting TAY so if anyone has guidance on October for 2025, I'm all ears!

Blair- thanks so much for the timely report! That looks very typical for this time of year. It's rarely good above 9000' this late- maybe in October, all will be sweet if we get an early storm. Hoping to knock off September (238) on Friday. I hope we don't have a government shutdown, or October will be a challenge!

I have been hiking up that area for decades, and never seen a goat in that area! Wise to give it a wide berth!

Interestingly enough, there was a very small snow field even lower with 2 mtn goats laying out on the snow so must have been a lucky day!
