I originally had very little interest in going into the area,bad memories from the past.Hand me down boots from my dad that were two sizes too small and crushed my toes,and my friend getting hit in the head from rockfall off the Tusk from a trip in highschool up to Black Tusk, and racing my brother across Garibaldi Lake on the Diamirs after a one day traverse of the Neve.But the weather was forcast to be good, so I made the slog up the cabin on Friday night. Which happened to be packed with Neve and Mcbride Traverses as well as Whislter local Yoda.I met up with Sky at the cabin who told me how good the skiing was up here. We started the skin up the Sphinx glacier perfect weather and excellent traveling conditions,skinning straight up the glacier up the Mt.Carr col, where we completed the 3500 foot climb to the summit, the last ridge section with crampons.Sky eyed the east face from the day before after a climb of Parapet Peak the day before.We Dropped in steep,firm and icy conditions for about a few thousand feet.Then we took steep skin track back up to the Cheakamus glacier.From here we skinnned up the top of Castle Towers. Then dropped in beside the Phyllis Engine, through a crux rock section an awesome descent down the sphinx glacier and hit some prime corn on lower slopes.The skiing was much better than I had expected and many peaks to hit from the cabin.Long climbs with few transitions and only 1.5 hours from Vancouver.
