Updated: Mt Baker Highway
I tried to edit this in as an update, but I'm not sure whether that worked.
Original report 10.25.22: Quick tour this afternoon, partly within the ski area boundaries. I'd planned to ski up the road, but for whatever reason DOT had plowed it to bare pavement, so I blundered around on my skinny, waxless skis for a bit before calling it a day. ~14" damp snow with no base, 32 degrees, coming down about an inch per hour when I left at 4:15, biting wind from the south-ish. Quite nice to be breathing hard in fresh air without a hint of smoke.
Just updating 11.10.22: there is now 10-12 inches of soft, silky powder on a solid base, with skiers hitting a variety of routes close to and within the ski area--Austin, Panface, Blueberry Chutes, etc. With the ski area still closed there is little traffic and lots of hassle-free parking. Of course there are the usual snowshoers, postholers, and pooping dogs, but at the moment there is quite a bit of untouched powder to be had by anyone brave (or foolhardy) enough to risk the shallow coverage. FWIW, I didn't hit any rocks or significant trees.
