Climbed and skied Mt. Baker this last Thursday and Friday(5/29-30). Conditions on the Easton Glacier are outstanding
Parked just about at the end of Schrieber's Meadow Road. began skinning at 8:50am. Snow depth in the meadow is right around 2-3 feet. made camp at 6200' around 1:15. Thursday was like a day at the beach. Warm..Rolled out the sleeping pads on the snow and hung out in the sun. Later that afternoon skinned up to about 7500' and had a nice ski back to camp.
Friday morning began climbing at 5am. We were able to skin up to about 8500' where the angle of the glacier steepens a bit and made skinning troublesome, so we donned crampons and made the summit at 9:15. Fairly windy at the summit, with variable visibility, so we prepared for descent quickly. Stayed long enough for a photo and to talk with a pair who had climbed the Coleman/Deming. We began the ski descent at about 10:15 and had outstanding turns from the summit all the way to camp. Some crevasses are beginning to open up on the route but for the most part things are still in super outstanding shape. Lots and lots of turns to be had. Struck camp, and skied slop back down the morraine to the meadows and the car...
