Dalius and I toured up through Summit East and over Nordic Pass to Silver Peak today. We climbed up to the north ridge and stopped a few hundred feet from the summit. The skiing was fantastic - boot deep unconsolidated powder with a good bond to a firm base.
We had a little bit of a boondoggle finding our way back down from Nordic Pass and thru the Summit nordic trails, then finished the day skiing under the Hyak lift. Great weather..wish I had photos but we didn't have a camera. You'd think you wouldn't need to bring your camera when touring with the guy who won the landscape division of the Vancouver Mountain Film Fest photo contest. (http://www.vimff.org/winners_photo.html#) Oh well.
Thanks for your TR from yesterday, Lowell. It made our choice easy for today.
Based on earlier discussion about touring through the summit while the lifts are running, I expected to get booted off the hill. We experienced the opposite, however, three different groups of patrollers were nothing short of kind and helpful as we encountered them on our way up Summit East.
By the way - be careful knocking your skis with your pole to get snow globs off your skins. Your ski pole just may break in two like mine did today in Ollalie meadow. ??? Thank goodness for duct tape.
