March 30, 2003, Mt. Townsend Olympics

Despite the forecast for rain to the north we headed up to the dry part of the Olympics.  No problem driving to the upper Townsend trailhead, very little snow on trail until you get near to where the trail breaks out of the woods and heads up steeply.  We got lucky, sunny, comfortable weather, although the clouds hung around to the north all day.  The skiing was sloppy but consistent and enough coverage to get from the summit right back to where the trail dips into the woods. About 1300 feet of skiing.

If we get more snow, this trip could last for a few more weeks, if not it won't last long,  only 3 maybe 4 feet of snow in the deepest sections.  

will plan on trying this one next year, but a little earlier.
