Up at 6 as usual, then ready for a little more napping, but Wolfi had other ideas. His bedroom window also serves as a weather station, and the outlook was too good to ignore. Off at 720 for the half hour drive to Morgenkoegel trailhead where he planned to find corn on this sunny day. I was skeptical after a couple feet of fresh (somewhat heavy) powder in the past few days, but hey I'm a guest in a new environment.
An hour up the trail it was obvious that no corn would be found, so the objective changed to a peak with northwest facing slopes, dust on crust (unbreakable thankfully) to a few inches of windpressed powder higher up. Great views to the Stubai peaks and Silvretta ski areas, then nice powder for about 800m following a local who had raced up the hill to catch us. Only a hundred meters or so of "carton" crust, then an easy 250m ski out on a forest road in wet heavy powder remains. Home for late lunch, no stops for dessert. :(
