Skied the South face of Tye Peak on Saturday. On South-SE aspect at about 5200', we found about 10" of new snow above 10" of consolidated snow. Below this was a 2" thick rain crust. Tests showed a clean shear at the rain crust, compression tests required up to 25 taps to collapse the upper layer. A RB score of 5, failing at the rain crust.
We skied moderate routes along the nose dropping down towards Nason Creek. The snow was so good we did another lap, skiined out to Skyline lake and down the front side for some more face shots. Great day!
