since temps were low the whole week at stevens pass, and the forecast promised fresh snow, we headed to yodelin, undeterred by the low coverage...

were richly rewarded for getting up early with breaking trail, fresh tracks in beautiful knee deep cascade powder, and as an added bonus, by early afternoon when the freezing level dropped and the snow was fast becoming mush we were too tired to continue.

yes, there are still a lot of little trees sticking out but we were able to ski around them ok. there was a thin crust under the fresh snow which however posed no problems.

the ski back along the narrow skin track with slide alder bushes strewn every couple feet was truly challenging and humbling for truly yours...

Ema  Yodelin is a fine little ski. I haven't been there in years but always enjoyed. Our group would refer to it as 'short and sassy' ;D. I think there was at one time a lift and small ski area there. Nice thing about the location was you could always sneak in another run on Heather Ridge on your way home. Thanks for the report

ema,

how did you find the new knee deep bonding with the sun/rain crust below?

Bill G

bill, we dug a pit at the very top and found very good bonding. the crust was quite thin, noticeable but not at all slick. same for lower elevations, noticed via pole probing, i think the cold temps kept the crust in check...
