Today was a villainous snow day! An evil breakable death crust about .5-2" thick remains from this weeks rain event. Given cold air temps and some breeze the snow never softened up and turned into the oh, so glorious corn snow (even on the south facing side). It was survival skiing to say the least. So instead of turns we did beacon practice and dug some pits. The current crust is not at all bonded to the layers beneath and there is an interesting buried hoar layer about 2' down. Also, what may amount to a considerable amount of surface hoar is building and could prove to be interesting if it isn't destroyed before the next snow cycle. Anyways, what was lacking in turning quality was made up for by a beautiful bluebird day with the excellent company of new friends. You can't complain about a sunshine day in the mountains ;D
