Crusteaze Everywhere.
A late start up to Stevens Pass from Seattle Monday due to avalanche-delayed road opening only to have rainy and foggy conditions so we headed up good old 97 to Apex Alpine out of Penticton BC. View from the top at 7000' above clouds looking north west. To escape the ice created from the thaw freeze cycle everyone is enjoying we dropped down into the trees toward the Nickel Plate nordic area with strip mine in background. Okanagon fluff in trees but glazed donut on south and west faces.
Next day headed back down to Mission Ridge  (minus oranges confiscated by border guard)  but same pleasant icey conditions. Ended up trying to ski Bluet Pass but ice and breakable crust was barely out weighed by the beautiful sunshine. The drive back to White Salmon via 97 and Yakima was waay scary in the fog, esp. going up Satus Pass.  Better luck next week when the snow returns?
