I couldn't join my usual gang last Saturday so I planned a similar trip to Fryingpan glacier this Friday.

I was able to convince my son and one of his friends to join me.

We used bike to join the start of the trailhead (4.2 miles) and we were able to start skinning 40mn before crossing the river (patches will force to multiple transitions).

Made it to Meany crest and went a little above (Strava max alt=7,719ft).

We were joined by a party who was skiing down from little Tahoma. They did a super early start but decided to turn around due to conditions.

Snow was definitively slushy but it was perfect for boot-pack. We used ski crampons but not sure they were mandatory.

Surprising good turns, could have been better with wider skis... but we had real fun on the way down.

Started from car at 8h20AM, turnaround a little after 2h30PM and back at the car 6PM. It's a solid day but it was good to see Rainier again!

Fryingpan

Hi I think I saw your bikes?  Two bikes locked up at the upper end of the parking lot with one set of bike shoes.  I was jealous.  Biked up from the 'Claw.  I never quite know how to ascend to the Fryingpan, to what I think is Meany Crest: the crux is kinds steep n gripping, but traversing looker's right is not a sure thing.  Anyhow perfect day!

yes, that was our bikes! We had 2 boot-packing to manage in order to get to Meany Crest, it is steep but the snow was in good conditions.

Definitively enjoyed the day!
