Skied off Lichtenberg SE ridge on a snowpack test/observation half-day. Sun and all forms of surface snow.

The good news is that it seems many steep things naturally slid last storm. The bad news is that the persistent weak layer is 70-90 cm down on south and west at 4500-5500'. PSTs 35-38 end, multiple ECT and CT produced planar shears from the elbow. Check NWAC for full details.

We kicked a cornice on the SW col (which appeared that it had already slid) and loose snow stepped down to a shallow D2 slab in the recent storm snow before entraining wet snow and going a few hundred meters.

Low probability, high consequence conditions for the persistent slab. We treated steep terrain as guilty until proven innocent and made good turns down to the creek.

If you skied just below the Lichtenberg summit at 1130, we got some nice photos of you. Email me for more: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
