With a day of settlement and improving weather, we did 3 laps on ENE aspects between 3000' & 3760'. Access would have been impossible without grooming, with ski penetration to the waist, armpit depth boot penetration and 150cm penetration of the poles. Even on the groomed terrain the edges sank a few inches deep. That said, we did enjoy some bottomless powder but didn't score any faceshots as there was very little turning.

Lots of evidence of recent avalanche activity in the storm layers but we didn't get anything moving. The DOT & pro patrol, on the other hand, got very positive results by dropping bombs from a heli on the Phantom, above westbound I-90 and out in the Alpental backcountry. Resort will spin chairs as scheduled tomorrow, drive safe and practice deep snow & tree well safety if you come up to play.
