Got a late start off of Vashon island at about 8:30 and headed for Snoqualmie. We got stuck in traffic and ended getting up to the parking lot by 11 or so.
Started our climb at 11:15 and climbed until almost 1 o' clock. (definitely not my fastest time) The ski up was very pleasant, nice skin track laid out for us and dramatic lighting with no precipitation. The bottom of the hill was a little bony with lots of creek openings and lots of bare spots on the slopes. about 3/4 up chair one everything was filled in quite nicely. We took 5 minutes on the top transitioning to downhill.
We decided that upper nash seemed like a pretty solid choice for the day and the stability looked pretty solid on the way up, so we dropped in to upper nash and dug a quick pit to see what layers are down in the snowpack.
Top foot was fist hard, there was a 2 finger hard layer about a foot and 3 inches down, and then a 4 finger hard layer approximately 3.5-4 feet down. We got the snow block to slide on the first layer on the 17th compression with a pretty rough break off, and the second layer with 24 compressions and a pretty rough break.
We then proceeded to ski on the skiers left of upper nash and on down to lower nash. Very fun conditions above the cat track and then a little manky below. Skied all the way down to the patio and enjoyed the views for a few minuted and headed back to Seattle.
