Dec 1, 2010, Hyak backside and frontside (video)

Got to Hyak around 7:10 with George and Ed, thankfully one guy and two dogs were about 15 minutes ahead of us, so we didn't have to break track.
Skiied two runs down the backside on one of the "re cut" runs. Somewhat heavy snow with a slight freezing rain crust.
Skinning up was easy -- as we were able to follow a cattrack packed out by crews working on the new chairlifts.
Skiied one run down the frontside -- using the steeper run just north of the new chairline. Kind of heavy -- skied easy for me on super fat Voile Drifters, George and Ed struggled a bit with their mid-fat skis.
Work crews were in the process of pulling the cable on to the new front side lift -- I talked to one of the workers and he said they were trying to get the new lifts ready for this weekend.

Way to slay it R, G and E! Much better up track than the post hole parade we saw on Sunday. I was in the orange jacket talkin Drifter tech with you. Paul (weaver on TAY) and I did a few more laps and things seemed to soften as the temp warmed, but not the mash. Hopefully this will stick to the rocks and give us a nice solid base. Saw evidence of slide activity likely from yesterday, crown face on Kendall Knob, and a few other ordinarily benign places.

I dug around a bit at the top of Hyak waiting for the sun to come up yesterday morning. There was a pretty easy sliding layer about 40 cm down that could've been an issue if Hyak was steeper. Maybe hoar frost from late last week.
