Chair Peak- Classic Spring Skiing

Have been eyeing up Chair Peak and the Source Lake Backcountry, but hadn't gotten a chance to venture back there this month. Headed out after work on the 23rd to check it out. Snow starts at the upper parking lot, but is pretty patchy on the return trail- enough so that I actually hiked out on the summer trail, rather than unstrap half a dozen times and fight through tarn and brush to find the down track. While the sun was out snow was sloppy, but firmed up nicely as the evening wore on. Climbed up the bowl under Chair Peak and attempted to boot as high as possible, and nearly got to the top before running out of snow. Carved out a platform with a shovel, and had a fantastic, fast ski down. Suncups are just starting to emerge, and the shade made the corn fast and forgiving. Get it while it's still good, easy skiing down to Source Lake will probably dry up in the next week or so
