Forecast was for morning good weather followed by yet another storm with falling snow level, so we were up at 6am, departed Innsbruck at 7, and once again headed south beyond the Brenner Pass, just in case the clouds we found in Innsbruck were not clearing. 8AM found us joining about 20 other carloads of skiers heading up the same valley.
There are about five (or more?) skiing objectives, so we were happy to see that only three other folks chose Hochegg with us! Nice skin up following a guided party headed elsewhere, then tough steeper track set by our comrades. Of course we could set our own if we chose. Unfortunately my lightly glued skin slipped off the ski about 700´ from the top, so I had extra exercise booting the final section. The kind Tiroleans were not at all angry with me booting in the skin track, but rather sympathetic, nice.
The day was bluebird, we found a north facing line with very light boot top powder for a couple thousand feet. Then the usual hour long stop on the way home for strudel and macchiatos, since it was Italy I had two for the price of one in Austria. It´s a tough life.
