April 22, Nisqually Chute, Mt. Rainier

With the good weekend forcast an overnighter to Rainier was in order. We started skining from Paridise at 12:30. A brisk wind kept the snow firm all the way up. We didn't set any speed records on the climb. After a break at some rocks above the run we finally dropped in about 4 p.m. to find we had timed it just right. Many people were skiing and boarding the Muir Snowfield, but we were amazed that there were no tracks in the chute. We found good smooth corn all the way down by staying on the steeper skiers right side, there were many snowballs and shallow sluffs off the left side into the center. The run down to the bridge was tempting, but without a car shuttle set-up we were worried about hitching back up so late in the day so we took the conservative choice and headed back to Paradise. We worked hard to get some good photos and were happy with the results.
