2/25, Amabilis Mountain

With concerns about the high avalanche danger, we were looking for a safe option to take advantage of all the fresh snow. Ryan and I decided to check out Amabilis mountain, just east of the pass. Neither of us had been there before, and we weren't expecting much. We were pleasantly surprised. After a few miles touring up the nordic trail we cut left through nicely spaced trees. We did 3 laps on the West aspect between ~3200 and ~4400 feet. There were 8-10" of fresh snow that was fairly light for the upper half. No signs of instability. Amabilis wouldn't be my first choice terrain-wise, but it exceeded my expectations. Could be a good option when stability is a concern.

You guys do any skiing? Or just air the whole mountain? - Look fun and thanks for the report. Amabalis definitely isn't first to mind, but glad you reminded me of it for when the avy is high or I take beginners.
Sadly, the terrain here doesn't lend itself to airing the whole mountain so we were "forced" to make some turns in between hits. ;)
Just don't forget your Snowpark pass. Dropped by recently to see the ticket writer in action.
