I've never been to Sunrise at MRNP, and am heading up to Seattle the weekend of the 18th.  I'd love to tag an extra day on to ski around there.  Wondering if it is likely that they will open it that early given the warm spring we've had?  The park service web site just has the boiler plate language for a 7/1 opening, but I'm guessing that will be a bit late for good conditions this year.

They will open on the 1st I'm sure the road is already good to go but they want the popular hiking routes to be pretty much snow free and when they are set on a date that's what it is going to be.

They also won't open the road until the concessions are set-up, staffed and ready to open. That probably entails seasonal employment which starts on July 1st...

June 10-12, Fri-Sun - Open to recreational use of bicyclists and hikers. No vehicles will be on the road, but please be aware of others recreating along the road.

June 13 - June 30 - Open to recreational use of bicyclists and hikers but sharing the road with work vehicles. The road can still close to recreational access at any time. Always check the sign on the Sunrise gate to see if recreational use is allowed or not before heading up.

July 1 - Sunrise Road open to the public."

So this begs the question... how do I comfortably attach my skis to my mtn bike?  Sundays weather forecast is starting to look halfway decent...

on my back or slung parallel underneath the seat?

Get them off your back if you can. This works OK: forums.mtbr.com/fat-bikes/carrying-skis-bike-900525.html

Edit: I mean the method in the photo near the bottom of that thread^

For about the same effort as biking up, one could probably drive to the park boundary now on FR 7360 off 410 and skin most of the way from Lake Eleanor.  More of a tour on the return, tho:
