They are busy at Paradise today plowing, going in and out of the visitor center, and even running the piston bully around. And they just announced that the road will not open today.

Keep in mind they are also complaining about their tight budget.

I can't quarrel too much with the closure given the avy danger and the forecasted weather, but AFAIK they could have announced the closure yesterday afternoon after the updated weather forecasts and avy forecasts. Might have saved some friends of mine coming out Friday night to spend the night at Longmire Inn with the goal of going skiing at Paradise in the morning but awakening to find after breakfast the gate would closed. It is quite obvious the Park decision makers are not following their own published closure matrix and, apparently, doesn't even know NWAC exists. They closed on Sunday but stayed open during the week duriing more hazardous conditions to close on Saturday with less hazardous conditions with no timely communication to the public. This is not the definition of competence, good will, or public servicen.

^^And this is the problem in a nutshell. Random, illogical behavior rarely breeds trust.

Are you guys nuts? What does a National Park have to do with outdoor human powered recreation?

It's not like skiing in at MRNP isn't featured in all the ski history archives and books, and presented as one of the most important spots in the US regarding the development of the sport...

Very good point ! Next time you happen to be at Crystal MT. Walk up the stairs to the Bullwheel and closely look at the pictures on the staircase. Most all were taken at Paradise. (I'm definitely not advocating a return to ropetows or lifts at Paradise). But skiers were coming to Paradise even before there were mechanical uplift. Lowell Skoog has documented this well.
Today we have increased demand by human powered backcountry enthusiasts ready to renew that history as long as we leave the parking lot by 430??
