I've read in numerous posts the RTM trail can be somewhat of a rather nasty bushwack (carrying ski's anyway). My plan, as of right now anyway, is to ski the SW Chutes and aim for just below the RTM trail where the Shorthorn trail starts to parallel Morrison creek at around 5600 feet and ski down the Shorthorn trail into Morrison Creek campground then ski down 8040 as far as I can to the SUV.
True, weather can always be an issue but I'll be in town for a week and a half or more and will have flexibility. The rationale for doing it over Memorial Day weekend is not only is there more snow but on the 3 day weekend there might be some other people going that early in the season I can tag along with for safety. I plan to also do a day-hike up to Camp Muir on Rainier and can always do it first.

The way this snow year is going it might not be doable after Memorial Day weekend! If the weather is good there will definitely be other people you can travel with. If you have time, take an extra hour or two and drive NW out of Trout Lake on 23 for awhile and you will get great views of the SW chutes from the road. Nice to take some pics for reference for your trip.
Hope you get a weather window and have a great time!

Thanks. Yeah, La Nina is still developing and hasn't produced much yet in terms of the white fluffy stuff (compared to expectations), although last year I heard it was bad until you got dumped on in April or something like that. Certainly more snow than in North Carolina though
Damn I can't wait to fly out and climb / ski Adams. A pic of it from where you described on 23 is already my Windows wallpaper and I check the web cam of Adams every day.
