K2 Coomback vs BD Drift was created by bobS
I’m looking for an all-around PNW ski with early rise & flat tails and was thinking of K2 Coombacks. But I just weighed a 188cm Coomback and it came in at 4lbs 8oz vs the BD Drift (186) which i weighed AT 3lbs 12oz.
It’s hard to argue with a 12oz per ski difference but the Drift feels pretty darn soft in the tip. Anyone have any experience or insights on these two skis?
Also, Any input on the K2 skins?
Thanks

I really like the Antipiste (Coomback), but then again, I've liked my previous K2 ski's and snowboards also. I just think K2's backcountry skis are well designed for our typical snow type. (variable)

But, I don't frett about weight on skis much. That would likely be a noticeable difference for a long day touring.

Is the Coomback the renamed Antipiste? That's good to know -- I demo'd the APs at Crystal last year. Lots of chopped up Cascade chowder around and those skis made me feel like I could do no wrong. You could do a lot worse than those, Bob. No opinion on the Drift...

I have 181 Coombacks. Great ski. Excellent choice for an all conditions performer. Camber and sidecut stats make them very lively in firm conditions, and the early rise/tip rocker, plus huge shovels get the skis up in the deepest pow.

I had a pair of the older Coombas and they were deadwood to try to push around, no spring in them. Can anyone compare the performance of new Coomback to the older Coomba?
I know a lot of TAYers really like the Coomba, but for me (and many others I know) it really was slow to transition from turn to turn.
My new Hardsides look like they have a lot more life in them.
Maybe K2 caught on and put a little more life in their skis.

I thought that the Drift was pretty soft in the shovel too.
Depends on what you like to ski and your needs Bob, but i would assume you would want a ski with more in the front end. I liked the feel of the newer Verdicts, you can get the last year models for fair price if you do a little searching. But the weight is more on those.

Joe, I skied the old Coombas in bounds for a day and did not like them at all. Deadwood is a good description. One of the most blah skis I've ever been on. So I understand people's reluctance to go from the Coomba to Coomback. The Coomback is a completely different ski.
