On a recent trip I arrived back at the trailhead with my right boot missing the inner cuff rivet .  the shell, both cuff and boot are OK, just the rivet missing.  Has anybody had this problem, and what was the fix?  When the shops open today I will start making calls, but my previous experiences are that they will want to send them out for repair.  I live in the portland area.  thanks, Ron

It's not a rivet, it's a custom designed nut and bolt. The fix is to find another and replace it. The cure is to use Locktite when you put it back together. Do both boots.

Take it to Sturtevant's in Bellevue, if you can -- both of Anastasia's boots failed there and they replaced the pivot bolt with a big rivet that does the job nicely.

Hmmm... just paid attention and saw that you're in portland. If you don't have a shop that will do it locally, perhaps call Sturtevant's and ask them what the particular rivet is called, or get a part number? Maybe they'll ship you a few to try it yourself. It's easier with a press, but I imagine you could manage without.

For future field-repair reference, you can do a decent job with a couple of wire ties, cleverly threaded through the holes, or with a stubble carriage bolt and a locknut.

i had the cuff rivet break three times in my garmont. garmont kept sending me new rivet's. they finally told me they were re - working the rivet and going to make it more burly.

i had a hard time finding a boot press in the olympia area and made two trips to Portland and the guys at the mountaingear store fixed it free both times. i have since used them for other purchases.

garmont actually sent me a free pair of boots - still in the box unused.

went back to scarpa.

cheers

Same thing happened to me. A trip to the North Bend Ace Hardware got m a low profile T-nut for the inside part, and a washer and a rounded allen head bolt to fit in from the outside. Fits perfectly and seems stronger than stock for about a buck.

A good bike store should be able to set you up with an appropriate fix plus a spare to carry in your repair kit.
